ISO 9001 - FAQs
What is ISO 9001 2008 intended to do?
ISO 9001 2008 is an amendment to, not a revision of, ISO 9001 2000. The intent is to improve clarity and interpretation to existing requirements of ISO 9001 2000. The changes will improve compatibility with ISO 14001 2004.
ISO 9001 2008 does not introduce additional requirements nor does it change the intent of the ISO 9001 2000 standard.
Is ISO 9001 2008 an upgrade?
Certification to ISO 9001 2008 is not an upgrade to ISO 9001 2000.
Your current certificate for ISO 9001 2000 is afforded the same status as new certificates to ISO 9001 2008.
How can users benefit from ISO 9001 2008?
To benefit from ISO 9001 2008 users of the 2000 version need to consider whether their current interpretation of ISO9001 2000 requires review.
There are no high impact changes incorporated into the new standard.
One year after the publication of ISO9001 2008 all accredited certifications issued (new certifications and re-certifications) will be to ISO 9001 2008.
How long will my current ISO 9001 2000 certification be valid?
Your current ISO9001 2000 certification will be valid for 24 months after the publication of ISO 9001 2008 (for the UK this will be until 15th November 2010).
Will I need more training to meet the new standard?
According to the official ISO website, ‘no additional training, or minimal training is required’.
